Wanting to break the morning joe habit, but unsure about tea? Well here is the lowdown on tea and its health benefits.

Real tea is derived from the tea plant, Camellia sinensis and this plant is the basis of the 4 true tea types found the world over; Black, Green, White and Oolong.  Herbal teas are not true tea types, but still have health benefits that are good for you such as minor pain relief, insomnia and fighting off colds and seasonal flu viruses.

True tea contains polyphenols or antioxidants that have been extensively studied and has been linked to lessen the risk of heart attacks, cardiovascular and degenerative diseases.  Additionally researchers have found that tea can help fight free radicals, which lead to DNA damage at the cellular level.  Other health benefits from drinking tea includes; lowering the risk or Parkinson’s Disease, increases metabolism, energy and muscle endurance.

Scientists are also examining how antioxidants found in tea helps to protect against many of the cancers that are seen today such as breast, colon, liver prostate etc.  Furthermore green tea has been found to improve bone density and strength which can aid in health aging.  And finally, one study found that consuming tea can help the body to recover from exposure to radiation and cellular degeneration.
